Privacy Policy

Who we are

The Waukesha Resource Navigator is operated by Steel Man Resumes, a project of The Midnight Garden LLC, based in Waukesha County, Wisconsin. We built this platform to help people find food, shelter, health care, jobs, and other services in our community.

What we collect

If you create an account, we store:

• Your phone number (hashed for login)
• A display name (only if you choose to set one)
• A 6-digit PIN (encrypted, we cannot read it)
• Triage responses (what you need, what barriers you face) if you use the triage tool
• Resources you save
• Community posts you make on the mutual aid board
• Feedback you submit about resources

If you use the AI chat, your questions are sent to Anthropic for processing. We do not store your chat messages on our servers. Chat history is only kept in your browser while the page is open.

What we do NOT collect

• Social Security numbers
• Dates of birth
• Home addresses
• Real names (unless you volunteer one as your display name)
• Location data or GPS coordinates
• Browser fingerprints or tracking cookies
• Criminal history details

How we use your data

• Navigation: to match you with the right resources based on your needs and barriers
• AI context: to give the AI chat accurate information about local resources when you ask questions
• Demand signals: we aggregate (combine and anonymize) triage data to understand what our community needs most. This helps us identify gaps in services and supports grant applications. No individual person can be identified from this data.

How long we keep your data

• Triage sessions: 1 year, then automatically deleted
• Demand signals: kept indefinitely as aggregated (anonymized) numbers only
• Account data: until you delete your account
• Community posts: until you delete your account

Third parties

We use these services to run the platform. They process data on our behalf:

• Anthropic -- powers the AI chat. Your questions are sent to their API. See Anthropic's privacy policy.
• Neon -- hosts our database. Data is stored in the United States.
• Vercel -- hosts the website. See Vercel's privacy policy.
• Resend -- sends verification emails for staff accounts only.

We do not sell your data to anyone. We do not share your data with advertisers. We do not profile you.

Your rights

You can:

• See your data: go to Settings and click "Download My Data"
• Delete everything: go to Settings and click "Delete My Account." This is permanent.
• Change your consent preferences: go to Settings and toggle Enhanced or Research data on or off

You do not need an account to use the directory. You can browse all resources without signing in.

Children

This platform is not designed for people under 13 years old. We do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has created an account, please contact us and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

If we make significant changes to this policy, we will post a notice on the platform. The date at the top of this page shows when it was last updated.
